International study trip
The International Study Trip is an important and compulsory part of the BMI International Executive MBA programme. BMI takes EMBA groups to a foreign country for a week of lectures, company visits, management briefings and cultural events.
Delivering part of the EMBA programme on site in foreign countries is intended to broaden students’ horizons, create networking opportunities and generally foster open-minded thinking about global business development.
Past trips took EMBA students to the sites of BMI consortium schools in Western Europe. Beginning with EMBA Class X, this tradition was changed to in favour of trips beyond Europe.
The first such trip, to Shanghai, China, took place in June 2009. The same destination is planned in 2010. These trips are organized in partnership with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which the Financial Times ranked as the No. 3 MBA in China and the No. 5 in Asia in 2008.
China was chosen as a particularly dynamic example of global business processes today, and a location with significant cultural differences so that students can directly experience the role of cross-cultural awareness.
Besides lectures at Jiao Tong University on topics such as the Chinese macroeconomic landscape, sourcing in Asia and the Chinese approach to strategy and branding, the 2009 study trip included visits to companies including Bao Steel, Phonak Unitron Hearing (Suzhou) Co., Schindler Suzhou Elevators and Volkswagen Shanghai.
Travel and accommodation costs for the study trip are included in the EMBA tuition.
