Minister, Bourse CEO, Ambersail Trio Win Alumni Awards at 2010 BMI Gala

17.2.2010

BMI Alumni nominations for outstanding personal achievements and contributions to society have been awarded to Lithuanian Economy Minister Dainius Kreivys (EMBA Class VIII), NASDAQ OMX Vilnius Stock Exchange Chairman Arminta Saladžienė (EMBA IX), and three crew members of the yacht “Ambersail” which circumnavigated the globe in 2009 as part of Lithuania’s millennium celebrations.

The awards were conferred over the holiday weekend when alumni gathered for the annual BMI Gala Dinner, this year marking 11 years since BMI was founded.

BMI Alumni chose to recognize Dainius Kreivys with the “Career Achievement” award for his efforts and “devotion to greater goals” since becoming a government minister in late 2008. Arminta Saladžienė earned the nomination for “Social Initiative”, in recognition of her role in the recent creation of the Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance.

Awards for “Personal Achievement” went to Artūras Dovydėnas (EMBA V), Saulius Šukaitis (EMBA VIII), and Mindaugas Ruktauskas (EMBA IX), who contributed to stages of the Ambersail yacht’s round-the-world “Millennium Odyssey” voyage.

The 2010 BMI Gala Dinner also featured a discourse by Dalia Ibelhauptaitė, an accomplished Lithuanian director and playwright who works in theatre, opera and film in the U.K.  She spoke about persistence in the pursuit of one’s dreams, relations between business and the world of culture, and changes she is promoting on the Lithuanian theatre scene.

“In these 11 years, more than 450 students have graduated from the BMI International Executive MBA programme, representing a real power to bring a modern, responsible management culture into fashion, to enhance the quality of leadership in the Baltics,” BMI Alumni Association President Daina Daubarė told the gathering.

“We as a group can have a big influence not only on political and economic developments, but also on the culture of Lithuania,” she added, noting that “creativity is a pre-condition for the competitiveness and well-being of the country, which is especially important in these volatile times.”

The Gala continued late into the evening as alumni and their spouses interacted in the pleasant atmosphere of the Shakespeare hotel. Many old relations were renewed and new ones were made during a Swedish-table dinner followed by music and dancing.
