BMI Names Academic Dean with International Vision

24.1.2008

The Baltic Management Institute, further consolidating its position as the leading executive management school in the Baltic region, has named Professor Pierre Semal, a former president of the prestigious Louvain School of Management (LSM) in Belgium, as Academic Dean. Prof. Semal will be responsible for the quality assurance of BMI programmes as well as international accreditations.

“This appointment show just how committed we are to the highest international standards of academic excellence,” says BMI Director General Jaunius Pusvaškis.  “It also strengthens the bonds of partnership among the business schools in BMI’s international consortium as we move into a new stage of institutional growth.”

Prof. Semal, a full professor at LSM since 1994, was president of the management school from 1999 to 2005. Educated both in the United States and in Germany, the 51-year-old Belgian national has also worked as a visiting professor in Poland, China, Russia and Bulgaria, and has conducted prize-winning projects at the Philips Research Center in Germany. He has lectured at BMI since the first International Executive Master in Business Administration (EMBA) class more than a decade ago.

“My priority as Academic Dean is to promote strategic growth at BMI, building on the institute’s many recognised strengths, including its international culture, academic rigour, extensive corporate links, engaged team members and quality students,” Prof. Semal says. “The goal is to offer current and future management leaders in the Baltic region even more and even better professional development opportunities.”
