Alumni Initiate EMBA Class IX Students into BMI Family ‘Italian-style’

24.11.2008

Alumni recognised Executive MBA Class IX students as full members of the BMI family of business leaders on Saturday evening at a unique initiation ceremony that tested their knowledge and creativity.

The event, organized by EMBA Class VIII and entitled Time to Join the Family, brought BMI students,  alumni and staff together for an ‘Italian mafia’ style dinner party, modelled on the classic movie “The Godfather”. Participants, all high-level managers from a variety of Baltic industries, were required to dress appropriately, leave their weapons at the door and remember the password.

Before swearing allegiance to the BMI family, members of EMBA Class IX, who are due to graduate next June, were challenged to show their knowledge, in a game show that resembled an interrogation, as well as their creativity and bravery, in live or filmed performances.

One of the films featured the workings of a corporate board of directors whose members were all superheroes. The hottest live performance was a complex Polynesian dance routine, with amazing choreography.

“This was one of the strongest and most humorous ‘christening’ performances that I can remember,” said BMI Director General Jaunius Pusvaškis, himself a BMI alumnus. “And that proves they are worthy to join the more than 300 business leaders already in the BMI network."

"The ability to harness one’s own creative potential and transmit passion to employees is an essential trait for successful executives today,” Pusvaškis added, explaining the logic behind the format chosen for this year’s initiation ceremony.
